The Sound & Light shows are magical experiences!

The Magical Carrieres de Lumieres (Quarries of Light) in Provence

Next to the beautiful Provence village Les Baux-de-Provence is an abandoned, white limestone quarry. The quarry is carved inside a mountain and is made up of huge rooms divided by limestone rock walls. Since 1977, the abandoned quarry has been used for sound and light shows. However, in 2012 the Sound & Light shows became art-theme based and officially named: Les Carrières de Lumières.

These digital art shows are so incredible that the quarry has become a major tourist attraction when visiting Southern France. We visited early June and at the end of the day. The venue was packed with tourists.

The current Sound & Light shows in Provence are the artworks of Paul Cezanne and Wassily Kandinsky. The show runs throughout the day and lasts for about 30 minutes.

Atelier des Lumières (Workshop of Light) in Paris

Since the Sound and Light show in Provence was such a major success, the idea was duplicated in Paris . The Paris venue is called Atelier des Lumières (“Workshop of Light”). The venue is an old, abandoned iron foundry. The Atelier des Lumières opened its doors to the public in 2018 and became an instant hit! This place is already a MUST see site when visiting the capital.

Note that Atelier des Lumières is very popular and crowded. To avoid waiting in long queues, I highly recommend that you book tickets online and in advance (for no extra cost). Press here to book.

The current sound and light show in Paris is “Dalí, the endless enigma / Gaudí, the Architect of the Imaginary”, playing until January 2, 2022.
